Homecoming Weekend a Success

Five days of warm Florida sunshine provided the backdrop for homecoming festivities on the Daytona Beach campus from Nov. 4-8. The departments of Alumni Relations, Student Activities, Athletics, Career Services and Campus Safety, as well as the Colleges of Aviation, Business, Engineering and Arts and Sciences   all partnered to create a fun and safe Homecoming Weekend for Embry-Riddle students, alumni, family and friends.

The week started with the annual two-day Career Expo hosted by Career Services. Employers came from all over to speak with students and alumni about potential employment opportunities. While there, alumni also had the chance to get their free Eagle Card which entitles them to various campus services, including the use of the fitness center and library.

On Friday night, alumni and friends were treated to live music and barbeque at the annual Hangar Party. Guests had the chance to reconnect and reminisce amidst the backdrop of the AMS Hangar and aircraft.

The Alumni Association hosted many activities on Saturday, beginning with a special breakfast reunion for graduates from the 1940s to the 1960s. These Heritage Alumni were then given an exclusive tour of the library’s special exhibits. For lunch, the Alumni Association co-sponsored reunions in each of Embry-Riddle’s four colleges. Later that afternoon, alumni were invited to walk in the parade and receive a free alumni t-shirt. Heritage Alumni were treated to a special shaded seating area near the middle of the parade route.

After the parade, Student Activities hosted a tailgate party in the parking lot of the ICI Center, where a live performance by Blessid Union of Souls kicked off the Alumni basketball game. Afterwards, the Men’s Basketball Team took on Montreat College and won with a score of 100-77.

As alumni and friends filtered out of the exciting men’s basketball game, they were welcomed by Alumni Association staff to the inaugural Eagle Night alumni party. Fine food, drink, music and company made for a wonderful evening under the tents next to the tennis courts.

Homecoming concluded on Sunday with an Alumni Brunch, where a new Alumni Awards Program was introduced. In coming years, Embry-Riddle alumni will have the chance to nominate others to receive special recognition for their service to their community and to the university.
