OctoberWest at Prescott a Success

Alumni traveled from across the country to attend this
year’s OctoberWest celebration at Embry-Riddle’s Prescott campus. Four
fun-filled days allowed for much networking, socializing and reconnecting, with
this year’s theme being “Lunarcy on Campus.” It was no coincidence that there
was a full moon on Saturday.
On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Prescott campus held a Career/Industry
expo that allowed seniors and alumni to meet employers and network. Later that
night, at the Hassayampa Hotel in downtown Prescott, the Alumni Association
sponsored a reception for those who attended the expo, including its industry
vendors. This year enjoyed the highest turnout on record with more than 350
people in attendance.

Alumni and friends gathered at Talking Rock Country Club to
play golf on Friday morning. The weather was ideal for play, with very little
wind. Dr. John Johnson, President, and Dr. Frank Ayers, Executive Vice
President, addressed the players prior to the tournament.

Later, on Friday night, the Alumni Association held a Mexican-themed
reception in the newly-renovated Student Union building. Bill Thompson,
Director of Marketing and Alumni Relations for the Prescott campus, held a brief
juggling contest between a Student Government Association representative, Dr.
Frank Ayers and an alumna. The alumna won, with Dr. Ayers coming in a close
second.
On Saturday, Oct. 3, students, alumni, friends, family and
local Prescott residents all gathered on the Prescott campus for a day of family-friendly
activities. With activities including face-painting, a moon-bounce, food, live
music, a car show and a parade, there was truly something for everyone.
In keeping with the tradition of the past 26 years, Hypnotist
Bruce McDonald entertained guests and hypnotized approximately 20 students
Saturday night. Before doing so, Student Activities and Alumni Relations staff
presented Mr. McDonald with a signed collage of pictures of his time at
Embry-Riddle, along with naming him an Honorary Alumnus. Mr. McDonald said he
was honored and very excited to show off his new alumnus pin! A fireworks
display immediately followed Mr. McDonald’s show.
