Ace that Interview!

“Tell me About Yourself”
As simple as this question may seem on the surface, most job candidates struggle with this question. Talking about yourself in a focused way can actually be more difficult than one might think. To answer this question tackle the following topics in a minute to minute and a half time span:
a. Brief Introduction
b. Major Accomplishments
c. Demonstrated Strengths
d. Importance of Strengths to Prospective Employer

"Do you consider yourself a risk-taker?"
Hint: Keep in mind the job you are interviewing for and whether risk-taking is likely an asset or a liability. If you are applying for a slot as a First Officer, your answer might be quite different than if your are applying for the role of Chief Operating Officer.

"Why do you want to work for our company?"
Traps: This question shows the employer if you have prepared by researching the company. Who is their competition? What are their current projects? What is their reputation? etc. If you are unprepared this question will hurt you.
Best answer: Briefly discuss what you know about the company and what they do. And take advantage
of this opportunity to remind them once again how your skills match the opening. Good sources to search for company information: annual reports, company contacts, advertisements, articles about the company (news and trade press), Google, etc.

"What are your salary requirements?"
You should always answer this question very broadly. You should try and wait until the job offer has been
made before giving specific answers. If the interviewer is persistent you can always ask them what the salary range is or you could say “I need to do a little more research on the cost of living and couple that with what professionals are making in this field.” Bottom line, when answering this questions make sure you do not place yourself to high on the salary scale, this might negatively impact the interviewer which might jeopardize your chances of a job offer, but also do not place yourself to low on the salary scale, making it difficult to pay your bills and live comfortable. Ask for what you need and remember that strategic planning is an absolute must!
