Former student-athlete signs contract with Baltimore Orioles

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Former Embry-Riddle student-athlete, Pat McCrory ('09, DB), received an opportunity to extend his baseball career as he recently signed a free-agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

In his only season with the Eagles in 2009, McCrory hit .291 with 33 RBI, was 17-of-18 in stolen bases and had a team-best 12 doubles. He also factored into the Eagles’ pitching, notching a 4-1 record in 14 appearances, finishing with a 2.53 earned run average and 36 strikeouts in 32 innings of work.

Perhaps his most notable performance at ERAU came against Florida Tech on Apr. 21, when the versatile McCrory fielded all nine positions in a single game. The Eagles’ everyday shortstop began the game at the catcher position and changed positions in consecutive innings in the following order: first base, second base, shortstop, third base, left field, center field, right field and pitcher. Not only did he make great plays in the field, he also went 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored and drew a walk.

McCrory will begin his professional career in the Gulf Coast League in Sarasota, Fla.
