Worldwide Campus Opens Two Military Locations in Iraq

Camp Victory, which is the primary component of the Victory Base Complex, occupies the area surrounding the Baghdad International Airport. Balad Airbase, which is the central logistical hub for forces in Iraq and serves approximately 15,000 service-members, is the busiest air base operated by the United States Department of Defense and is overall currently the second busiest airport in the world - second only to London’s Heathrow Airport.

“The International Region is pleased to represent the university in our continuing efforts to provide aviation related educational opportunities to our service-members wherever they are found defending our freedom.” said Donna Roberts, International Regional Dean for the Worldwide Campus.

Under the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) military education contract, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University represents one of three schools authorized to maintain a presence at the education centers on US military bases in Iraq in order to provide military members and supporting civilians both on-site classroom courses and online learning opportunities. “We are honored to have the opportunity to strengthen our commitment to providing education to the dedicated men and women serving our country.” said Marty Smith, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Campus.

Currently there are no aviation programs being offered at the Iraq military education centers. Embry-Riddle holds exclusivity under the CENTCOM Contract for the aviation portion of education for military bases in the Middle East.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest, fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace, offers more than 30 degree programs in its colleges of Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, and Engineering, educating more than 34,000 students annually in undergraduate and graduate programs. Doctoral programs in aviation and in engineering physics are pending approval by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for the University to offer programs at the doctoral level. Embry-Riddle educates students at residential campuses in Prescott, Ariz., and Daytona Beach, Fla., through the Worldwide Campus at more than 130 campus centers in the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Middle East, and through online learning.
