Alumni and Friends Gather at Paris Air Show
Embry-Riddle was well-represented at the Paris Air Show held June 20-26 at the Le Bourget Airport. The global community of aerospace and defense professionals convened to showcase innovation, build relationships and grow their businesses. Both Airbus and Boeing series aircraft were featured prominently at the air show this year. Dan Montplaisir, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, said,"The alumni and friends reception brought together individuals from across the spectrum of the industry, including test pilots, engineers, military personnel, students and sales executives, all with an interest in expanding the Embry-Riddle influence and reputation."
To welcome and celebrate Embry-Riddle alumni, the Alumni Association held an exclusive reception at the Aero Club de France in downtown Paris on June 22. More than 70 alumni and friends attended and had the opportunity to hear from Dr. John Watret, Executive Vice President for the Worldwide Campus. Watret gave an overall university update, while Michele Berg, Executive Director of the Alumni Association, updated attendees on the Alumni Association. Berg said, "Hosting an alumni reception at the Aero Club de France (founded in 1898) provided our alumni and friends who traveled from all over the world to attend the Paris Air Show, the opportunity to network and socialize with one another. It was truly a quality event for our outstanding alumni that included food that looked like art and French champagne!" View photos.
Six AIAA Scholarships Awarded to ERAU Aerospace Engineering Students
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is proud to announce that of 30 scholarships awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), six went to Embry-Riddle students, the largest number distributed to students from any university.
The AIAA scholarship awards underscore Embry-Riddle’s growing national reputation in engineering. For the past 11 years, U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” report has ranked the university’s aerospace engineering program number one.
Four of the recipients are from Embry-Riddle’s Prescott, Ariz., Campus, and two from the Daytona Beach, Fla., Campus. Read more.

ERAU Teams Sweep FAA Runway Safety Design Challenge
In an unprecedented achievement, three student teams from Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus recently took first, second, and third place in the Runway Safety/Runway Incursions Challenge category of the 2010-2011 Design Competition for Universities, sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The prize-winning proposals can be viewed at the competition website, http://FAADesignCompetition.odu.edu.
The annual event, now in its fifth year, engages undergraduate and graduate students at U.S. colleges in designing innovative solutions for technical challenges in airport infrastructure and operations. The competition requires students to reach out to airport operators and industry experts to advise them and help them assess the efficacy of their proposed solutions. Representatives of the FAA, industry, and academia select the winning proposals, and teams with promising designs may receive FAA funding to take their concepts to the next stage of development.
